If you've seen the Virgen de Coromoto medal on your feed this month, you're not imagining it — a post of mine went genuinely viral, and the messages that came with it were almost all the same question: what is this, and why does it matter so much to the people wearing it?
The story: Our Lady of Coromoto is the patroness of Venezuela, and the devotion traces back to an apparition tradition tied to the Cospes people in the 17th century.
For Venezuelan families — especially those who've left home and rebuilt somewhere else — this medal isn't simply decorative. It's portable identity. It's a piece of home you can carry with you.
This medal came to me in a very special way.
I was entrusted with it by the Apostolado de la Virgen de Coromoto, with the purpose of helping carry her image beyond Venezuela — to Venezuelans living abroad, and to anyone who feels a connection to her story and devotion.
That mission inspired me to recreate her image in mother of pearl and turn it into something you can wear and carry with you wherever you are.
Each piece has its own natural variations, but the image and its meaning remain at the center.
In many ways, that feels fitting: the image is the same, but what she represents to each person is deeply personal.
The current lot sold out almost immediately. The next one ships August 22, and if the last few weeks are any indication, it won't last long either.
If you've been waiting on this piece, sign up to be notified — I'll email you the moment it's back
