Tsavorite is green grossular garnet, found in East Africa in the late 1960s and named by Tiffany & Co. after Kenya's Tsavo region. It reaches the saturated green most buyers go looking for in emerald, with two advantages. It is almost never treated, where most emerald is oiled or resin-filled to hide fractures. And it carries more fire, because garnet disperses light more strongly than beryl does.

Six tsavorites totaling 0.88 carats sit along a triple jacket that frames the lobe from below, and eight diamonds add a full carat. At an eighth of a carat each on average, those diamonds are substantial stones rather than accent melee, which is where much of this pair's weight sits.
