Emerald green is the hardest color to get right in a small stone, because the smaller the emerald the more the color tends to wash out toward pale. Emerald is beryl colored by chromium and vanadium, and it is the only one of the three classic colored stones — ruby, sapphire, emerald — that asks for a little care.
