Our Lady of Coromoto — patroness of Venezuela — carved into mother of pearl and framed in 14k yellow gold with diamonds and tsavorite garnets. For anyone who grew up with this devotion, I do not need to explain what this piece means. For everyone else: it is one of the most personal things a person can wear.

The tsavorites are the detail worth understanding. Tsavorite is a green grossular garnet found in East Africa in the late 1960s, rarer in fine material than emerald and, almost uniquely among colored stones, sold entirely untreated. Its refractive index is higher than emerald's, so it returns noticeably more light — 0.65 carats of it reads far greener and livelier than the number suggests.

Set against 0.32 carats of white diamonds and the soft iridescence of nacre, the effect is deliberate: green, white, and gold, framing an image meant to be looked at closely.
